Maca Latte

If you're like me, you've noticed maca powder popping up at the store and you didn't know what it was or how to use it. To learn how you can benefit from maca see my post 8 Reasons You Need Maca Powder. In short, maca is a superfood that enhances energy, balances hormones, increases fertility, and is high in protein, vitamins, minerals, amino and fatty acids. One teaspoon packs quite a punch.

Maca is great in smoothies, pancakes, muffins, tea, and coffee. I always toss 1 teaspoon of maca in my smoothie, yet I found this latte to be a nice, healthier alternative to a regular latte. For the latte, you can use whatever kind of milk you choose. There are so many options these days. If you limit dairy but still enjoy some on occasion, I recommend doing half cows milk and have dairy alternative because you'll get better foam on your latte. This is what I do most of the time. There is just no better way than cows milk to get good foam on a latte. If you're choosing a dairy free option use whatever suits your fancy. You can even mix two together. I often mix almond and flax milks together. Experiment here and find what you like. There is no wrong way.

I've had my espresso machine since high school graduation. I can't believe it still works since it's just from Wal-Mart. I recommend buying yourself one if you like coffee, It's especially nice to make a latte every now and then for something different than the usual cup of coffee.

Maca Latte

2 shots brewed espresso

3/4C. almond milk

3/4C. milk (whole milk, flaxmilk, or whatever you fancy)

1 t. vanilla extract

1/2 t. maca powder

cinnamon, ground

raw sugar

serves 2

Combine the milk you've chosen to use in a stainless steel steaming cup or a glass measuring cup, add the vanilla extract, and the maca powder. Using an immersion blender (by now you should know I LOVE these), blend until well mixed together. Set aside while you brew your espresso.

After you get your espresso machine, brew yourself two 2 shots of espresso. Steam the milk, vanilla, and maca powder mixture until frothy.

Divide the espresso into two coffee cups. If you know how to make one of those fancy hearts or flowers with your steamed milk, do that as you top off each espresso with milk and froth. I really should learn how to do that. Kudos if you know how!

Sprinkle each laate with a little raw sugar and some ground cinnamon. Enjoy!
